Malt is used to improve the quality of food products. It is used in bakery products, by the pharmaceutical industry, in animal feed, in beverages and breakfast cereals (like cornflakes), and in brewing. Malt is generally powdered, but is also available in liquid form. Our subsidiary, Diamalteria, specialises in producing malt extract.

What is malt extract used for?

Malt extract is very widely used in the food industry to:

  •  add color to or intensify the color of food products, making them more appetizing;

  • improve products' texture and mouthfeel;

  • improve products' flavor: either as a taste exhauster or as a sweetener;

  • prevent the formation of crystals and facilitate freezing;

  • boost yeast activity. Brewers, for example, use malt extract to facilitate and accelerate the beer production process. Malt extract also helps bakers produce appetizing products that are attractive and pleasant to eat.
