Logistics/Transportation Manager

Malteurop is seeking a Logistics/Transportation Manager that will be located at our Corporate Office in Milwaukee, WI.  The Logistics/Transportation Manager procures and manages all logistics service providers which transport raw materials and finished goods in a timely manner and at the least possible cost.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Being in charge of the execution of malt deliveries from the malting house to the customer.
  2. Optimize our company fleet size to make sure deliveries arrive on time and railcars get back to the origin as soon as possible for the next load.
  3. Negotiate various agreements for transportation services such as railroad rates, container and bulk vessel transportation contracts, truck transportation agreements, and railcar leases to meet manufacturing and customer delivery requirements at the lowest possible costs.
  4. Analyzes rates and values, published tariff barley and malt shipping rates to ensure least cost transportation methods are employed at all times.
  5. Manage relationship with malt transloader facilities, service level and inventory accuracy.
  6. Manage export shipment material shipment execution (end to end) by selecting export sales loading and transfer points.
  7. Establishes route instructions for incoming raw materials and outgoing finished product supporting procurement.
  8. Provides transportation support services to manufacturing operations.
  9. Manage, coordinate and monitor the execution of domestic and export shipments including shipping costs, and malt shipments to customers from different plants.

This position has two direct report – Transportation/Logistics Specialist.

 Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Business, Transportation, Logistics or other related disciplines
  • Minimum 5 years Transportation and/or Logistics experience; preferred railroad  
  • Experience using ERP systems, SAP preferred
  • Financial acumen and P&L experience
  • Demonstrated successful contract negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and management experience, including process improvement techniques and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Demonstrated analytical, business planning and problem solving skills; Ability to develop trend analysis and helps to build baseline of information with respect to the client(s) activity
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30% or as business requires
