Director of Safety and Environmental Services

Job Purpose:

The Director of Safety & Environmental Services will provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to all Malteurop North America employees to ensure employee health and the environment are protected. He/She will conduct and manage activities that ensure compliance with governmental regulations and corporate policies. This includes advising, implementing and developing new procedures and processes as needed to ensure compliance from a local, state and national level. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitates all government safety inspections for designated location(s) and responds in a timely manner in coordination with facility management to inquiries/inspections by loss control service provider and government agencies (OSHA and Workers Compensation etc).
  2. Visit each location to ensure compliance in safety and environmental services.
  3. Look for new ways to capitalize on the tax credits for improvements in environmental services.
  4. Maintain all safety reports, logs and other documentation to ensure compliance with federal, state and local agencies.
  5. Perform accident investigations, conducts safety audits to ensure compliance with company & governmental regulations, and ensures understanding and enforcement of plant safety rules.
  6. Monitor periodic performance reports for trends and conditions for safety (OSHA) agencies and communicate findings to plant and executive leadership; Ensures that all operations are conducted in accordance with all existing federal, state, local, corporate, and Safety operating policies and procedures, including site inspection and interfacing with regulatory personnel including but not limited to OSHA, DOT, Health Department and other varied local, state and federal government officials.
  7. Develop and support necessary training initiatives with preparation, presentation of required Safety training and training programs for the Malteurop corporate and plant employees
  8. Provide special training programs, including Supervisor safety training and special employee safety training programs, maintains accident records and supporting documentation.
  9. Manage worker’s compensation claims.
  10. Develop new and creative ways to keep the workforce engaged in safety.
  11. Keep abreast of changes in laws and technology.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Environmental Health Safety or other related disciplines
  • Minimum of 10 years or more of hands-on safety experience in a manufacturing setting with 5 years management experience
  • Proficient Safety (OSHA) regulations at the local, state and federal level
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred: ability to work in manufacturing environment and provide leadership on the plant floor
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a safety culture
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bi-lingual: Spanish and English is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent listening / communication (verbal and written) with the ability to connect with a variety of audiences
  • Experience in Managed Care, Return-To- Work, and/or Claims Management
  • Ability to conduct training sessions and give presentations to small and/or large
  • groups of people
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30%; both domestic and international travel
