Malthouse Lead Operator

Malteurop North America, Inc. is seeking Malthouse Lead Operator candidates for its Great Falls, MT facility. Under the direction of the Malthouse Supervisor, the Malthouse Lead Operator will manage all aspects of Malthouse Operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support all company initiatives, programs and policies with a positive attitude.
  2. Enforce Plant Operating Rules and Regulations and Safety Rules.
  3. Work diligently and cooperatively with other employees to achieve all goals, targets and initiatives set forth by Management.
  4. Closely monitor malting process and act diligently to avoid any quality issues or production delays.
  5. Supervise malt production personnel, with overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of his/her unit.
  6. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  7. Lead operator carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  8. Participate in all required training and education. Lead operator should develop his/her own Career Development Plan under the direction of Management and Human Resource Department.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following (other duties may be included):

  1. Oversee daily operations on the floor to avoid any delays, recover from delays, prevent accidents, and maintain quality and efficiency. Please notify Process Manager of noteworthy actions taken.
  2. Walk through/ monitor production facilities and observe worker activities, ensuring that production/process controls, in process measurements and safety standards are being met. Send a weekly report to Process Manager via email.
  3. Monitor sanitation requirements, devise and follow-up on the execution of cleaning schedule of Malthouse facilities and grain path. This should lead to a Germination Vessel (spell out) rating higher than 7.45 out 10, GMP 100% completed and no sanitation issues during tours, inspections or audits.
  4. Conduct maintenance/repair walk-through inspections, observing maintenance related items which require attention. Goal is zero Preventive Maintenance outstanding items older than 2 weeks.
  5. Coordinate maintenance of production facility with maintenance personnel. Zero production deviation due to tardiness notifying mechanics or electricians
  6. Monitor production related supplies, instruments and chemical levels in order to achieve zero shortages. All instruments must be in good working order, calibrated and operational.
  7. Perform malt surveys and adjust process accordingly. At least 85% of the batches should be within the overgrown target.
  8. Maintain production related paperwork, “Montana Daily Report” excel file (steep barley tab, byproducts tab), process charts binder (color, S/T). Log and notify any steep barley quality issues.
  9. Review and approve employee time cards to achieve zero payroll processing delays.
  10. Listen to employee questions and/or problems and address their concerns. Motivate employees to fulfill their performance requirements. Deal with disciplinary problems as needed.
  11. Train, develop and mentor employees. Review “Training Matrix” and BOPs annually. Operators and Supervisors are required to attend >90% of all safety training and perform one weekly SOA.
  12. Conduct team meetings at the start of each shift to communicate production and safety matters (tool box talks). Notify Process Manager of noteworthy actions taken.
  13. Function as a member of the company Safety Committee by attending one meeting per quarter.
  14. Serve as a taste panelist by tasting a minimum of five samples per month.
  15. Assist Process Manager in the creation of the weekly staffing report.
  16. Assist Process Manager in the preparation of steep cards and steep changes.
  17. Keep overtime and other expenditures below budgeted amount. Do not permit any waste of resources.
  18. If applicable, maintain high level of competency with production transactions in SAP as to avoid any inventory issues.
  19. Participate in the water quality program by measuring two process water chlorine content per month, two CIP chlorine content per month and one pressure drop across vessel’s heat exchanger per month (when in use).
  20. Avoid any issues with the “Effluent Discharge Permit”. This entails keeping Barley Washer usage targets, ensuring samples are running and collected, monitor H2S at 4049 and MENA manholes, and avoid any violations due to system failures by checking effluent pump rates and equipment operations.
  21. Supervisor’s stretch Key Performance Indexes are: cooling tower and boiler water additives concentration test, caustic solution strength test, quick color method determination, effluent tanks cleaning, writing new BOPs as needed, calibrate instruments, take the lead of one of the company initiatives (i.e. P4P, food safety requirements, wellness program, etc.)
  22. Any other task assign by the Process Manager or Plant Manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 5 years’ supervising experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment, food production industry a plus
  • Experience with running equipment, with the ability to perform basic preventative maintenance
  • Excellent Mechanical Aptitude
  • Must be able to work rotating shift and weekends

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED:

The employee must wear safety shoes, safety glasses and a hard hat and a full face respirator when working in manufacturing areas
