Experimentation Technician

The experimentation technician plays an important role in research and development. He is responsible for the proper conducting of the experimentation done on different varieties of barley so that the Director of Varietal Development can select the varieties that will satisfy all the players in the value chain.

He goes into the trial fields regularly to prepare seeding and monitors the vegetative development of the barley being tested. He also monitors the harvesting and collection of these trial crops.

Then comes testing of the barley varieties defined by the Director of Varietal Development at the micromalting facility. This stage consists in reproducing the malt production process using a small quantity of barley, in appropriately dimensioned installations. At the end of this stage, results – the behavior of the barley during processing, its appearance, and the qualitative properties of the malt produced – are gathered and analyzed.
